Way back in 1997 a girl I was interested in said she'd like to learn how to swing dance. I found out the information found a class and called her to let her know. Needless to say she never returned my call!! But I went to the class anyway and had a blast. Soon I was dancing virtually non-stop from 1997 to 2001. I attended Swing Camps in Hollywood, Catalina Island and throughout the country and danced in Australia, Japan, Germany and Paris. My greatest love was Harry Dentons Starlight Room on Monday nights where we would dance to the best bands in San Francisco including Swing Session, Indigo Swing, Steve Lucky & the Rhumba Bums and Lavay Smith and the Red Hot Skillet Lickers to mention a few. To avoid death by dancing I took up photography to get a rest between the dancing. After September 11th 2001 the Starlight Room stopped swing nights to save money. That left Jeremy Suttons "Move to the Groove" as a monthly highlight ... alas since that has been in hiatus I only appear to dance at special events.
